The Botanic Gardens in Glasnevin are an oasis of peace, beauty and tranquility at any time. But the opportunity to be taken on a guided tour of their wonderful Rose Garden on a warm summer morning on Sunday 19th June was something definitely not to be missed. Our guide, the redoubtable Assumpta, had an encyclopedic knowledge of roses. And not just the horticultural aspects, but she filled her walk and talk with historical, social and personal information pertaining to these beautiful roses that were her life’s work and her obvious great love. She also gave generous practical advice to those of us trying to care for our own roses.
As two interlopers from Sandymount, may we thank Coleesa and the LADRA Committee for allowing us to be part of your group on that lovely day.
